Eggless Leche Flan

Are you on a diet? This one is for you, a leche flan without an egg, less calories, but still taste the same. One good thing also is we do not need to steam it. Enjoy!

Ingredients for 5 servings:
1 cup condensed milk
1 1/2 cup evaporated milk
2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine powder ( either yellow or white)
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup hot water

Procedure:
1. Put the sugar in a molder then melt it and set aside. No need to put water.
2. Dissolve the gelatine powder in hot water then set aside.
3. Mix the condensed and evaporated milk, then put in a pot over medium heat stirring constantly, when it is already hot, add the gelatine mixture, then wait until it simmers, simmer for 2 minutes. Turn off the heat. Pour in the pan molder then refrigerate until it is firm.
4. When it is already firm, run a knife in the edges so that we can remove it easily from the  molder. Put a plate on top, turn it upside down then loosen. Slice before serving.

Note: Follow the exact measurement for a good result. Gelatine powder should be exact in measure if you put too much it's not good.

What if we don't include the sugar, will it turn out good as well? Condensed milk is enough to make it sweet. Thanks!

^ Uhmm... The sugar is for the syrup only..

Have you tried agar powder? Will the same amount of gelatin be equal to that of agar

Mely Maravilla said...

Note that sugar is not included to be mixed for the leche flan but for the caramel or syrup.

Mely Maravilla said...

Yes, you are right.

I havent tried agar, because it is not available in my place, but if it is available I will use it over gelatine.
If you will use agar, instead of dissolving it in hot water you need to boil it for few minutes, or else it wont work, because agar has a high setting point compare to gelatine that is why you need to boil it for it to be fully dissolved.

Anonymous said...

how much water will we use in cooking agar? how much of agar will be needed for your/this recipe? is it OK . . . instead of 1 1/2 cup evap, i'll use 1 cup evap and 1/2 cup heavy cream?

Mely Maravilla said...

ok very soon God willing I will be posting it, I am just deciding and calculating how o make it the easiest way.

will await for ur nice recipe for the panna cotta. thanks, thanks and take care. God bless us all. THANKS. Nora

Mely Maravilla said...

I have not tried this with agar, so I am not sure really but I recommend , just follow the same ingredients but just replace the gelatine powder with agar, I am not sure also about the heavy cream, im so sorry because I dont recommend things that I havent tried or experience with the result in using certain ingredients. But I admire your creativity, go for it and let me know.

Thanks Ms. Mely for sharing this cholesterol guilt free recipe. I'll surely try this. Leche Flan has been and always my favorite dessert but with the amount of egg yolks i've decided to ditch for quite sometime now. Hope someday they'll come out with a sugar free condensed milk...that would be the day!

You are welcome, let us hope for it, maybe one day God willing :-)

Hi po! It was a disaster when I made it..it says in the instruction that you have to dissolve the gelatin powder in hot water and set aside..it hardened when I made it and can't mix it with the milk mixture..what did I do wrong? Please reply..I really want to make this for my daughter who has egg allergies..thanks

Mely Maravilla said...

It doesnt matter if it's like that, when you drop it in hot milk it will still be dissolve , Your gelatine is so strong but its ok, if its like that just put on the milk mixture and wait until it is fully dissolve or melted, once it is boiling lower the heat to simmer it for 2 minutes you will see the gelatine will be dissolve so dont be scared about it being hardened.

Anonymous said...

Thanks po..i will make it again this weekend..;)

This one looks yummy. And since you recommended this for those who are on diet like me...hehe...guess I will try this one. Nice idea po.

Will try this out. :) Looks sumptuous and especially that I consider calorie intakes that much for my eating routines.

Ahh. Cooking is such heaven. And yes, to invoke a line from Disney's Ratatouille film (about a mouse that has this penchant for cooking despite its supposed "despicable" nature, and garnering some inspiration from a renowned French cooking personality Chef Gusteau):

"Anyone can cook."

Will look forward to your recipes even more!

Good day ms.! Your eggless leche flan recipe was so interesting I cant imagine that its possible haha because the main ingredients of leche flan was egg. I just want to ask if the its texture was the same as the leche flan with egg kasi po dba iba ang texture ng gulaman compare sa leche flan na may egg. May plan po kasi ako na gumawa... Thanks po! :)

Mely Maravilla said...

@ Anonymous sorry for a late reply I was out of town. Around 20 sachet of gelatine powder, around 10 big cans of evap just refer to the original recipe and measure it that way.

@ Anonymous not exactly the same texture but almost the same and also yummy, I am inviting you to try this recipe, you wont regret it.

I would like to try this eggless leche flan of yours. Looks interesting. But do you have any substitute or replacement for the condensed milk? Not really good for diabetics (I live with one). Any suggestion? I'd appreciate a reply. Thank you!

Mely Maravilla said...

You can use the light version of condensed milk, this is designed for people with diabetes, lesser sugar.

Hi Ms. Mely..
I tried making this recipe but since my children loved egg so I tried by adding 2 whole eggs when the gelatin has been dissolved. but after 2 hours inside the fridge, still its not firming. Do you think its because of eggs?

Mely Maravilla said...

yes it's because of the egg, its not eggless anymore since you put 2 eggs , the eggs are raw thats why it can't be hardened.

Anonymous said...

Hahaha...oh my! But anyways, hope maubos 'to sarap parin naman.... :) thanks a lot Ms. Melly for posting recipes it would help me a lot.... I learned so much from your blogs. gawa nalang ako ulit based on your procedure... Thanks po.

Mely Maravilla said...

@ anonymous sorry I am not sure if that measurement is the same measurement as their cans because in my place I bought big cans coz its cheaper thats why I used only cups to measure what I needed for the recipe.

@Anonymous
1/2 cup its written in the ingredients.

@ Miles
Thanks for a very nice comment.
